The primary challenge in editing a video like this is making sure the viewer can feel the progress of moving up the mountain. I approached this by adding maps interspersed within the footage that Tom captured of his ascent.
In addition to maps, I created a motion graphics template that I could use at any point during the video to show the location and elevation that Tom achieved at that time. If you know After Effects, then you know that making the numbers count up isn’t too hard. However, making this scrolling animation that I could change to any number is more complicated. The effect is worth the time I spent building it, in my opinion!
